TERMS OF ADOPTION
Route 1 is theoretical until it is fully funded and built. Please read these terms before you adopt.
The short version
- For $100 per inch you get a Certificate of Reservation right away, and a placeholder for your inches of proposed Route 1 in the Moon Roads register.
- Route 1 is not yet funded or built, and it may never be built.
- If and when your adopted portion is built, you get a second certificate, the Certificate of Completion, at no extra charge.
- This is not property, not a right to anything on the Moon, not an investment, and not a donation.
- The name on your certificate will be listed in the public register, unless you check the box on the order form to be listed as Anonymous. The register will be published once one kilometer of Route 1 has been adopted, or sooner if we decide to.
- You can get a full refund for any reason within 14 days.
This summary is for convenience. The full terms below are what apply.
1.About these terms
These Terms of Adoption ("Terms") govern your participation in Adopt an Inch, a commemorative program operated by Space Mobility, Inc., a Delaware corporation ("Space Mobility," "we," "us," or "our") under the name Moon Roads. By checking the agreement box on moonroads.com, accepting these Terms at checkout, or completing a purchase, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not adopt.
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to make a purchase. You may adopt on behalf of someone else as a gift under Section 11.
2.What you are buying
For $100.00 USD per linear inch, you receive:
- A Certificate of Reservation, issued electronically as soon as your payment completes, emailed to you as a PDF, and available to download from the link in that email; and
- A reservation of one or more linear inches of proposed lunar Route 1 in the name you provide, recorded as a placeholder in the Moon Roads register.
The Certificate of Reservation and the register entry are delivered at the time of purchase and are the goods you are paying for. Inches are assigned in the order purchases are completed, starting at the beginning of Route 1, and are shown on your certificate by station and inch.
3.Route 1 is theoretical until it is funded and built
Route 1 is a proposed project. As of the date of your purchase it is not fully funded, not finally designed, not scheduled for launch, and not built. It may never be built. Its route, length, location, stationing, materials, and schedule may change at any time, and it may be delayed, redesigned, relocated, or cancelled.
Your purchase does not fund, guarantee, or accelerate construction of Route 1. Space Mobility has no obligation to build Route 1 or any part of it.
4.A reservation, not a right
Your adoption reserves a placeholder in our register that identifies the portion of Route 1 associated with your name if and when Route 1 is built. It is a commemorative record only.
It is not an ownership interest, lease, license, easement, access or use right, naming right, or right of any kind in the Moon, the lunar surface, Route 1, any vehicle, any data, or Space Mobility. If the stationing of Route 1 changes, we may reassign your reservation to an equivalent length of Route 1 and will update the register accordingly.
5.Your Certificate of Completion
If and when the portion of Route 1 corresponding to your reserved inches is constructed, we will issue a second certificate, a Certificate of Completion, at no additional charge, to the most recent email address we have for the holder of the reservation. It is your responsibility to keep your email address current by contacting us.
If Route 1, or your portion of it, is never built, no Certificate of Completion will be issued. That outcome does not by itself entitle you to a refund.
6.No property rights
Under the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies (the Outer Space Treaty of 1967), outer space, including the Moon, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means. Nothing in this program conveys, or claims to convey, any property right in the Moon or any other celestial body. The Outer Space Treaty is very clear about this. Obviously.
7.Not an investment or a donation
Your purchase is a purchase of commemorative goods. It is not an investment, security, deposit, loan, prepayment for future services, or equity or other interest in Space Mobility or any project. It carries no right to profits, revenue, interest, dividends, repayment, voting, or any other financial return, and you should not expect it to increase in value or to be resold.
Your purchase is not a charitable donation and is not tax-deductible.
8.Price, payment, and taxes
The price is $100.00 USD per inch, with a maximum of 100 inches per order, plus any taxes that apply to your purchase. Prices may change, but a change will not affect a purchase you have already completed.
Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. We do not receive or store your full card details. Your purchase is complete when Stripe confirms your payment.
9.Refunds
You may request a full refund for any reason within 14 days of purchase by emailing contact@spacemobility.com with the email address you used at checkout. After 14 days, purchases are final, except where a refund is required by law or described in these Terms.
If a refund is issued, including through a payment dispute or chargeback, your Certificate of Reservation is void, your reservation is released, and your name will be removed from the register.
10.The public register
The Moon Roads register records each reservation of Route 1. By adopting, you agree that the name as it appears on your certificate may be listed in the public register, together with the station and length of your reservation and the date you adopted, unless you check the box on the order form asking to be listed as Anonymous.
When the register is published. The register will be made public once a cumulative total of one kilometer of Route 1 (39,370 inches) has been adopted. Space Mobility may, at its sole discretion, publish the register sooner. Until it is published, the register is kept privately by Space Mobility.
What is not published. We do not publish your email address, payment details, or location.
Listing as Anonymous. The order form includes a box to be listed as "Anonymous" in the public register. If you check it, your reservation will appear in the public register as "Anonymous" instead of your name, together with its station, length, and adoption date. Your certificates will still show the name you provided. Your choice is recorded when you complete checkout and applies to that purchase.
Names we may refuse. Only submit a name you have the right to use, such as your own name or the name of a person you are adopting for with their permission. We may decline, correct, or remove names that are offensive, unlawful, infringe the rights of others, or impersonate someone. If we decline a name and you do not provide an acceptable replacement, we will refund your purchase.
11.Names, gifts, and no transfers
You may adopt in someone else's name as a gift. If you do, you confirm that you have their permission to list their name as described in Section 10, unless you check the box to be listed as Anonymous, and you remain the purchaser for purposes of refunds and these Terms.
Reservations and certificates are non-transferable. They may not be sold, assigned, gifted onward, or otherwise transferred to another person after purchase.
One name change. You may request a change to the name on your reservation and certificates one time only, and only (a) to reflect a legal change of name, or (b) to correct a misspelling. To request it, email contact@spacemobility.com from the email address you used at checkout. We may ask for reasonable documentation of a legal name change. An approved change results in reissued certificates and creates no additional rights.
12.Your certificates
Your certificates are for personal, non-commercial use. You may print, frame, share, and post them. You may not alter them, sell them as official documents, or use the Moon Roads or Space Mobility names or marks to suggest an endorsement or an ownership interest. Moon Roads, Route 1 in its shield, and related marks and designs belong to Space Mobility.
13.Changes to the program
We may pause, change, or end the Adopt an Inch program at any time. If we end the program, completed reservations will remain recorded in the register, and your Certificate of Reservation will remain a valid commemorative certificate. If Space Mobility permanently abandons Route 1 or ceases operations, no Certificate of Completion will be issued, and that outcome does not by itself entitle you to a refund.
14.Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the program, the register, and your certificates are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not promise that Route 1 will be funded, built, located, or completed on any schedule, or at all.
15.Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Space Mobility's total liability arising out of or relating to your purchase, the program, or these terms is limited to the amount you paid for the purchase giving rise to the claim, and Space Mobility is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these limits may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.
16.Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, except where the consumer protection laws of your place of residence require otherwise. Before filing a claim, please contact us at contact@spacemobility.com so we can try to resolve it. Either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court where it qualifies.
17.Privacy
We collect the name for your certificate, your email address, the number of inches you adopt, your country as reported by our payment processor, and confirmation of your payment. We use this information to process your purchase, issue certificates, keep and publish the register as described in Section 10, handle refunds and support, and contact you about your adoption and Route 1.
We may create and share aggregated information that does not identify you individually, such as the total number of people who have adopted, the total length of Route 1 adopted, and the general locations of adopters (for example, by country or region).
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the program, such as Stripe for payments and Cloudflare for hosting and email, and when required by law. Card details are handled by Stripe under its own privacy policy.
To access, correct, or delete your information, email contact@spacemobility.com. If you ask us to delete your information, we may keep records we are required to keep for tax and accounting purposes, and your reservation will be listed as "Anonymous."
18.Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The version and effective date appear at the top of this page, and your certificate records the version in effect when you adopted. Updates will not reduce the benefits described here for purchases already completed.
19.General
These Terms are the entire agreement between you and Space Mobility about the program. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce any part is not a waiver. You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your reservation; we may assign them to a successor to the program.
